Thunderbirds thump Beavers
BLIND RIVER – A night after letting one get away in a overtime setback to Elliot Lake, the Soo Thunderbirds made sure that did not happen again as they thumped the Blind River Beavers 11-0 Saturday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at the Blind River Community Centre.
Sault Ste. Marie would get than enough offense they would need in the opening stanza jumping up to a 5-0 lead on a pair of markers from Matt Caruso and solo efforts supplied by Joey Miller, Jaren Bellini and Matthew Mitchell.
The Thunderbirds added three more in the second getting goals from Brett Jeffries, Nicolas Tassone and Miller’s second of the evening to take total control.
Caleb Bowman, Nicolas Sicoly and Connor Dea then finished off the romp in the third.
Owen Headrick dished out three assists to help out the Soo with Jeffries, Matt Pinder and Eric Hillock supplying two helpers apiece.
Brian Kment made 22 stops to register his second shutout of the season while Zach Mills and Braddock Baalerud combined to face 45 shots in defeat for Blind River.
The two sides will meet now get set to square off again in the playoffs as their best-of-seven West Division semifinal will get underway next week.
