Thunderbirds too much for Beavers

BLIND RIVER, Ont. – The surging Soo Thunderbirds continued to soar Sunday as they defeated the Blind River Beavers 7-2 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest held at the Blind River Community Centre.

Specials teams saw both sides score once on the power play in the opening stanza as Nathan Hebert converted on the man advantage for the Thunderbirds with Tyler Somers doing likewise for the Beavers.

Play in the middle frame favoured Sault Ste. Marie as they scored three times with Darian Pilon, Joey Miller and Matt Pinder all finding the back of the net to put the visitors up 4-1 through two.

They then put the game away in the final frame notching three more goals courtesy of Matt Caruso and a pair from Izaak Del Mastro to make it 7-1.

Blind River got one back late as Joseph Eben struck on the power play with 2:52 left to round out the scoring.

Caleb Boman had a big day for the T-Birds picking up three assists along the way.

Mario Culina won for a second straight time in net for the Thunderbirds making 19 saves in recording the win.

Martin Miloslavich was peppered with 53 shots in defeat for the Beavers.
