Thunderbirds vs Canadians Game Preview

Tonight at 7:30 p.m. from the John Rhodes, the Soo Thunderbirds will take on the Rayside Baflour Canadians, who are currently the top team in the West Division.

The Thunderbirds, who are currently in third place in the West Division with 30 points, sit only 3 points behind the first place Canadians.

Heading into tonight’s contest, the Thunderbirds have one player in the NOJHL’s top 20 scoring.

Second year forward Nick Smith is 19th in NOJHL scoring with 17 goals and 25 points.

The Canadians, meanwhile, do not have a member of their club among the the league’s top 20 point getters, but are led in points by defenceman Jordan Spadafore.

Spadafore, who has 2 goals and 20 points, currently sits second in scoring among NOJHL defencemen.

HEAD TO HEAD

In one meeting this season, the Thunderbirds dropped a 4-3 decision to the Canadians back on October 5th at Chelmsford Arena.

Braden Robbins, Tyler Malpass and Nick Smith had the goals for the Soo.

Darcy Winkler led the way offensively for the Canadians with two goals and an assist while Mackenzie Savard made 33 saves for the victory.

LAST YEAR’S RESULTS

It was a one sided regular season series against the Rayside Balfour Canadians during the 2016-2017 season as the Thunderbirds won all eight meetings against them while outscoring them 41-15 overall.
