The Soo Thunderbirds have announced yesterday that they have signed local defenceman Connor Toms.
Toms, who stands 5,10 and weighs 178 pounds, spent last season with the Great North Midget League’s Soo Junior Greyhounds, where he led all team defensemen in goals (9), assists (17) and points (26) through 39 regular season games and was named the NOHA’s Player of the Year.
The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native also suited up for a pair of games with the Thunderbirds during the 2019-2020 regular season.
Toms, who turned 16 years old back on March 13th, was selected in the 3rd round (44th overall) by his hometown Soo Greyhounds in the 2020 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection this past April.
If the last name Toms sounds familiar, it’s because Connor is also the son of former Soo Greyhounds star forward and former NHLer Jeff Toms.
