The Soo Thunderbirds are getting another familiar face back!

On Monday, the team has announced that they have reacquired forward Spencer Van Tiem from the CCHL’s Kanata Lasers in exchange for a player development fee.

In 33 games played with the Lasers this season, the Binghamton, Michigan native had 6 goals and 7 assists along with 8 penalty minutes.

Van Tiem, who stands 6’1 and 180 lbs, had 6 goals and 5 assists in 20 games played with the Thunderbirds last season.

The 20 year old also had 3 goals and 7 points during the 2018 postseason, and finished tied for second in team scoring during the playoffs with teammates Kaidan McDonald and Nick Smith.

“Spence brings size, strength, familiarity, and more leadership to our hockey team. He’ll be a welcome addition to our club moving into the second half of the season.” Trev Zachary – GM Soo Thunderbirds.

Van Tiem becomes the second player to be reacquired by the Thunderbirds this season, following Gage Stephney, who came over in a trade with the St. Catherines Falcons back on October 30th.
