Welcome Back Barbs

By Matt Stefano

With a 7-1 record to complete the month of September, the Soo Thunderbirds have reacquired a familiar face on the blueline.

After being traded to the GOJHL’s Chatham Maroons earlier this month, the T-Birds have reacquired 1997 birth year defenceman Andrew Barbeau in exchange for player development fee.

Barbeau, who attended Erie Otters camp this Summer as a free agent, finished last season with a goal and four helpers through twenty six games with the T-Birds along with collecting twenty three penalty minutes.

Andrew is excited to rejoin his hometown team and is a gritty defenceman who will also add more veteran leadership.

“Following a real strong camp with the Erie Otters, Andrew spent some time in Chatham and expressed a desire to them he would like to return home,” said T-Birds general manager Jamie Henderson. “Earlier today, we made the deal and we’re really excited to have Barbs back with the team,” Henderson continued. “He will certainly bring a high intensity level game in and game out and add even more depth to a strong blueline.

The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native stands 5’11 and 200 lbs.
