SAULT STE, MARIE, ON – Kelsey Ouellet and Samuel Lake had two goals each as the Soo Thunderbirds dumped the visiting Timmins Rock 5-1 at the John Rhodes Community Centre on Saturday night.

The Thunderbirds made their power play count on this night going 3 for 6 with the extra man.

However, it was the Rock who opened the scoring just at the end of a Rock power play as Jack Anderson raced down the left wing and beat Thunderbirds goalie Kolton Bourret high at 12:51 of the first for a 1-0 Rock lead.

Kelsey Ouellet evened things up late in the first as his shot through traffic surprised Rock starter Dryden Riley, as he made it 1-1 after one period of action.

Ouellet got the Thunderbirds ahead for good early in the second as, on a power play, Ouellet fed Samuel Lake with a nice pass in the slot for this 14th which made it 2-1 TBirds.

Later in the second, it was Ouellet again as he picked up a shot by Kaden Dundas that missed the net and popped out to him as he beat Riley for his second of the game and 15th of the season which made it 3-1 at 14:24.

In the third period, Lake increased the Thunderbirds lead to 4-1 on another power play as he put a rebound by Riley for a 4-1 lead at 12:40.

Then Jonathan Sonedecker wheeled around the ice on another power play, and came down the left wing and beat Riley with a quick shot which made it 5-1 at 16:15.

The win moves the Thunderbirds to 29-13-4-1 while the Rock drop their second straight on the road as they move to 33-14-2.
