T-Birds add Kearney

With the Soo Thunderbirds getting set for the second game of their regular season tonight at the John Rhodes, the club has announced today that they have added another d-man to their roster.

Today the Soo Thunderbirds have signed 2004-birth-year defenceman James Kearney.

Kearney, who is the newest member of the Thunderbirds, was recently a member of the AJHL‘s Whitecourt Wolverines during the 2022 preseason, where he notched 1 goal and 2 assists in 3 preseason games.

Kearney’s 1 goal and 2 assists all came in the Wolverines first exhibition game back on August 25 in a 6-5 overtime victory against the Drayton Valley Thunder.

“We are thrilled that James chose to come here and play for the Thunderbirds and continue his development,” said Soo Thunderbirds assistant coach and general manager Jamie Henderson. “Having coach Jarrett and assistant coach Rebek being able to work with him and share their experiences with him and all of our d-men was a big draw for James. We are excited to get James here and to get him started with his new teammates.”

Kearney, who is from Toronto, Ontario, stands 6’4 and weighs 191 pounds.
