Connor Toms is now one step closer to suiting up for the red and white!

The Soo Thunderbirds have announced today that defenceman Connor Toms has signed with the Ontario Hockey League’s Soo Greyhounds for the upcoming season.

Toms, who was drafted by the Soo Greyhounds in the 3rd round (44th overall) in 2020, played the 2020-2021 season with his hometown Soo Thunderbirds, where he scored 4 goals and 18 points in 19 regular season games.

During the 2020-2021 season, the 17-year-old also led all NOJHL defencemen in assists (14), power play assists (7) and shorthanded goals (2).

The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native was also named the Thunderbirds Rookie of the Year for 2020-2021, and became the first defenceman to win the Thunderbirds Rookie of the Year Award since Wyatt Villalta did back in 2017.

Toms, who has now signed with his hometown Hounds, is also the son of former Soo Greyhounds forward Jeff Toms.

His father Jeff played three seasons with the Greyhounds from 1991-1994, where he helped the Hounds win the J. Ross Robertson Cup in 1992, followed by a Memorial Cup title in 1993.

Toms becomes the second member out of the Soo Thunderbirds program to sign with the Hounds this offseason, following forward Tyler Savard, who signed with the Hounds back on May 13.

The Hounds also have three other former Soo Thunderbirds members that are currently their team, including defenceman Robert Calisti, associate coach Jordan Smith and equipment manager Jay Thomas.
