Beavers beat TBirds in OT for second straight night

BLIND RIVER, ON – Jesse Dupuis scored his 22nd of the season in overtime to give the Blind River Beavers a 3-2 win over the Soo Thunderbirds at the Blind River Community Centre on Saturday night.

It was the second straight night the Beavers came out on top in overtime as they edged the TBirds 5-4 in overtime Friday night in Sault Ste. Marie.

Dupuis led the way for the Beavers with two goals while Daniel Vasic finished with 1 goal and 1 assist.

Dupuis opened the scoring at 1:06 of the opening frame to get the Beavers on the board early as he converted a quick pass from behind the net from Jakob Kovacs for the early 1-0 lead.

Grayson Ebrahim evened the score for the Thunderbirds less than 3 minutes later as he fired home his 23rd of the season with helpers from Quinn Myles and Jonathan Sonedecker.

The Thunderbirds took their first lead of the game midway through the first, as Candon O’Neill scored his 5th on a power play to give the visiting TBirds a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.

It stayed that way until late in the third period when Daniel Vasic netted the equalizer at 19:08 of the third period to force the extra session as he picked up a loose puck high in the slot and beat Soo starter Kolton Bourret.

Dupuis got the winner on a rebound off of a Michael Gallagher shot and beat Bourret to end the game.

With the overtime win the Beavers go to 37-10-0-0 while the Thunderbirds drop to 27-13-4-1.
