DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque Spartans men’s hockey program has announced that Soo Thunderbirds (NOJHL) forward Jackson Truchan has committed to the school, beginning in the fall.
In two seasons skating in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League, with the Thunderbirds, the 21-year-old winger from Farmington Hills, Mich., was well over a point-per-game performer with the club.
In 83 career games, Truchan registered 117 points on 45 goals and 72 assists, with 10 of his tallies counting as game-winners.
He also had 23 points in 17 playoff contests, including nine markers.
“We have been watching Jackson’s development for the better part of two years now,” offered Dubuque men’s head hockey coach Seamus Gregory.
“He’s a dynamic forward, who can be depended upon in a primary scoring role,” added Gregory.
“We have the opportunity for him to do that here and have all the confidence in the world he will do just that. With the many options he had, we are excited he chose Dubuque.”
The University of Dubuque Spartans are a NCAA Division III school based in Dubuque, Iowa. They are members of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.
Four NOJHL alumni were on the Spartans’ roster during the recently completed 2023-24 campaign.
They were forwards Jonathan Lush (Espanola Paper Kings); Thomas Gazich (Powassan Voodoos) and Jake Lamberty (Soo Eagles), along with defenceman Brandon Rossetti (Timmins Rock).
