Former Soo Thunderbirds head coach Jordan Smith is becoming a Thunderbird once again.

But this time, in the American Hockey League!

It was announced on Monday that former Soo Thunderbirds head coach Jordan Smith has been named assistant coach of the American Hockey League’s Springfield Thunderbirds for the 2022-2023 season.

Smith, who spent the last four seasons as an associate coach of the Ontario Hockey League’s Soo Greyhounds, served as head coach of the Soo Thunderbirds from 2013-2017, where he led the Thunderbirds to back-to-back Copeland Cup McNamara Trophies in 2015 & 2016 and one Dudley Hewitt Cup title in 2015.

Following four seasons with the Soo Thunderbirds, Smith then moved up to become an associate coach of the Ontario Hockey League’s Sudbury Wolves in 2017-2018.

Next season with the Springfield Thunderbirds, Smith will also work alongside former Soo Greyhounds head coach Drew Bannister, who currently serves as the Springfield Thunderbirds head coach, and former Soo Greyhounds goaltending coach Dan Stewart, who now serves as the Springfield Thunderbirds goaltending coach.
