He just scored his first goal of the season last night in Espanola, and now today, he just scored an OHL contract with the Troops!
The Soo Thunderbirds have announced today that rookie defenceman Declan Gallivan has signed with the Ontario Hockey League’s North Bay Battalion.
Gallivan, who was drafted by the Battalion in the 7th round (141st overall) this past April, has so far put up a goal and an assist in two games played this season with the T-Birds.
The 2007-birth-year defenceman also suited up for twelve games (Including 7 in the playoffs) last season as an affiliate player with the T-Birds, were tallied a total of 2 goals and 3 assists.
“We’ve had the opportunity to work with Declan now for a couple of seasons and he has certainly earned this opportunity with his committed attitude both on and off the ice,” said Soo Thunderbirds assistant coach and general manager Jamie Henderson. “During last season, Gallivan also impressed us with his play during our playoff run.”
“North Bay is getting a special young man and there’s no doubt about it.”
Gallivan, a native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, is currently playing this afternoon in the North Bay Battalion’s exhibition game against the Owen Sound Attack, but this season, Gallivan is expected to remain with the Soo Thunderbirds and play with the Battalion as an affiliate player.
