Savvy is headed to O-Town!
It was announced on Friday, June 30 that former Soo Thunderbirds forward Tyler Savard has been invited to attend this year’s Ottawa Senators Development Camp as a free agent.
Savard, who just completed his second season in the Ontario Hockey League, will be one of eighteen free agent invites at this year’s camp.
In two Ontario Hockey League seasons played so far, Savard has tallied a total of 26 goals, 75 points and 187 penalty minutes.
Savard, who began his Ontario Hockey League career with the Soo Greyhounds back in the 2021-2022 season, then ended up being traded to the Barrie Colts back on January 3, 2023.
Before moving up to the Ontario Hockey League, Savard spent one season with the Soo Thunderbirds back in 2019-2020, where he finished second in team scoring with 19 goals and 50 points in 43 games played.
Savard, who scored two overtime goals that season (2019-2020) with the Thunderbirds, also tied the franchise record for most overtime goals by a Thunderbird player in a single season, joining Jeff Rainville (2002-2003), Geoff Gieni (2010-2011), Jerry Petingalo (2010-2011) and Eric Hillock (2013-2014).
Savard, 20, is still eligible to play one more season in the Ontario Hockey League as an overage.
WHEN AND WHERE?
This year’s Ottawa Senators Development Camp will run from July 2-6, and will take place at the Canadian Tire Centre and the Bell Sensplex.
REUNITED WITH HOUND TOWN
At this year’s Ottawa Senators Development Camp, Savard will be reunited with three of his former teammates from the Soo Greyhounds, including Charlie Schenkel, Caeden Carlisle and Connor Clattenburg.
Like Savard, those three (Schenkel, Carlisle and Clattenburg) were all invited to this year’s Senators Development Camp as a free agents.
