Sudbury shuts out Sault Ste. Marie

SUDBURY – Sudbury Nickel Barons goaltender Kevin Labelle stopped all 34 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season as his side blanked the first place Soo Thunderbirds 3-0 Wednesday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest at McClelland Arena.

Matt Neault notched the only tally Sudbury would require on this night as he beat Thunderbirds starter Brian Kment 7:49 into the opening period as he finished off a feed from Ryan Mooney.

The score stayed that way until the midway point of the final frame when Nickel Barons captain Jacob Bonin struck shorthanded to put the home side up by a pair.

Neault then iced it with an empty netter with one second remaining for his 15th goal of the season.

Kment finished with 22 stops in defeat for Sault Ste. Marie, who were shutout for just the second time this season.
