After edging the Soo Eagles 3-1 at the Pullar Stadium on Friday night, the Soo Thunderbirds were back on Essar Centre ice for the second game of a home and home series against the Soo Eagles.

On Friday night, it was birthday boy Drake Pilon leading the way with a goal and a helper and on Saturday night, he continued his success.

Pilon led the way with a pair of goals for the T-Birds in a 4-0 win against the Soo Eagles on Saturday night. Caleb Boman also had a two point night with a goal and an assist, while rookie forward Zach Senecal also had a goal. Darian Pilon set up two goals in the victory, while Brandon Grandinetti, Matt Busby, Matt Mitchell, Nathan Hebert and Andrew Barbeau all had assists.

T-Birds rookie goalie and Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan native Brandon Gordon made 19 saves for his first NOJHL shutout, while Eagles goalie Jack Hickey gave up 4 goals on 40 shots.

“It’s pretty amazing,” said Gordon, who got his first career shutout against his hometown team. “I was just trying to stay in the game and not think about anything but the puck.”

After being reacquired from the GOJHL’s Chatham Maroons on Monday, defenceman Andrew Barbeau suited up for his first home game back in a T-Bird uniform.

“It’s a great organization,” said Barbeau, who had one assist on the night. “All the boys in the room are great and we’re just looking for another championship year like last year and that’s all we are hoping for.”

This past Summer, Barbeau also attended Erie Otters camp as a free agent.

“It was a great experience,” said the 1997 birth year defenceman. “I learned a lot there and now just excited to be back here.”

The T-Birds will be in Elliot Lake on Friday, October 9th to take on the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. from Centennial Arena.
