This past weekend was a busy one for the Soo Thunderbirds as they acquired a pair of new, but familiar faces to their club, including forwards Lucas Theriault and Mark Tassone.
Theriault, who came over in a trade from the GOJHL’s Kitchener Dutchmen Jr. B this past Friday in exchange for PDF, is no stranger to the Thunderbirds organization, as he suited up for a trio of games with the club during the 2016-2017 regular season.
“I’m excited to be back home and back playing for the Soo Thunderbirds. I’m looking forward to playing with this coaching staff, and a great group of players,” Theriault stated.
The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario product scored his first career NOJHL goal on November 16th, 2016, in a 6-2 victory over the Elliot Lake Wildcats at the Essar Centre.
The 17 year old served as captain of the GNML’s Soo Greyhounds during the 2016-2017 season, where he finished tied for first in league goals (37) and points (82).
He was then drafted by the Niagara IceDogs in the 12th round during the 2016 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection.
Eighteen year old forward Mark Tassone, who came over in trade with the Powassan Voodoos on Remembrance Day in exchange for forward Nicolas Case and PDF, has been a fan favourite with the Thunderbirds during his time in the Soo from 2015-2017.
Last season, Tassone finished fourth in team scoring with 18 goals and 37 points.
“It was difficult for me to leave prior to the season, but things worked out for a reason and I’m grateful to the team for having me back. There’s a lot of young talent on this club and the coaching staff we have I’m excited to see what we can do the rest of the season,” said Tassone.
The Soo Thunderbirds hockey club has a long tradition of excellence led by great owners, coaches, players, and staff. The Soo is a special place to play hockey and the Soo Thunderbirds will continue the tradition of building a program with players who want to be part of a team that will represent the community with a quality and a class product on and off the ice.
