They just wrapped up a a six-game series against each other, but now they will compete for another seven that means even more!
The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced on Thursday that the Soo Thunderbirds will once again take on the Blind River Beavers in another cohort series, in what will this time be for the COVID Cup.
Although we will not see a Copeland Cup McNamara Trophy champion crowned for a second straight year due to COVID, the Thunderbirds and Beavers have decided that the winner of this seven-game cohort series will be awarded the COVID Cup.
The Soo and Blind River are the only two teams left in the NOJHL’s West Division as Rayside Balfour, Espanola and French River all had the remainder of their seasons cancelled due to on going COVID restrictions in the Greater Sudbury area.
The COVID Cup series between the Beavers and Thunderbirds will work like this:
Game one of the COVID Cup series will be held at the John Rhodes Community Centre on Sunday, March 14, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
