Thunderbirds, Gold Miners maintain place in CJHL rankings
SUDBURY – The two Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League clubs listed in Canadian Junior Hockey League top 20 rankings held on to their respective positions for a third consecutive week.
In the latest CJHL listings announced Monday the Soo Thunderbirds were once again ranked fifth overall nationally while the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners maintained their hold on to the No. 14 slot in the weekly tabulations for the 128-team CJHL, which are prepared in conjunction with NHL Central Scouting.
Entering week 14 in the NOJHL, Sault Ste. Marie sits atop the league standings with 48 points on a 23-4-0-2 record.
As for Kirkland Lake they remain in close contention just four points back at 44 as their 21-3-0-2 record indicates.
They do however hold three games in hand on the Thunderbirds and also boast a better winning percentage at .846 compared to .828 that the Sault has at the moment.
Overall there was also no change among the other squads in the CJHL top five.
The Alberta Jr. Hockey League’s Fort McMurray Oil Barons and Spruce Grove Saints come in at No. 1 and No. 2 respectively while the Carleton Place Canadians (CCHL) are third and the Fort Frances Lakers (SIJHL) sit fourth.
