T-Birds Edge Voodoos In Overtime

After dropping a 2-1 overtime decision in Kirkland Lake on Saturday night, the Soo Thunderbirds rebounded on Sunday afternoon in Powassan with a 5-4 overtime win over the Voodoos.

T-Birds defenceman Mike Caruso had a multi goal game with a pair of tallies including the overtime winner on the power play. Forward Matt Caruso, who continues to lead the team in points, led the way offensively with three assists. Matt Busby also had a multi point game with a pair of helpers. Caleb Boman, Matt Mitchell and Matt Pinder (power play) had the other goals for the Soo while single assists went to Mark Tassone, Joey Miller, Nathan Hebert and Brett Jeffries.

Kyle Moore had a goal and an assist for the Voodoos while Aaron Beauchamp also had a multi point game with two assists. Tyler Peters (power play), Eric Champagne (power play) and Jake Staples (short handed) had the other goals for Powassan while Mike Silveri had a single assist.

T-Birds goaltender Connor Ryckman made 23 saves for his first career NOJHL victory while Garrett Forrest gave up 5 goals on 60 shots for the Voodoos.

The T-Birds, who have swept the season series 2-0 against the Voodoos, will now return home on Friday, January 15th at 7:30 p.m. against the French River Rapids from the Essar Centre.

NOTE: Caleb Boman, who notched 11th  goal of the season, giving him 20 in his career on Sunday afternoon, tied the Soo Thunderbirds record for most career goals by a defenceman with Bronson Kovacs (2006-2010) and Justin Shelleby (2004-2006), who both share the current record with 20.
