The Soo Thunderbirds have announced today that they have signed 2004-birth-year defenceman Lucas Whitehead for the 2022-2023 season.

Whitehead, who stands 5’7 and weighs 146 pounds, spent last season with the Okanagan Hockey Ontario Under-18 Prep club, where he tallied 1 goal and set up 9 others in 31 games played.

The Barrie, Ontario native then had 1 assist in 4 games played during the 2022 Under-18 Prep Eastern Championships.

“I’m really excited to sign with such a high calibre organization and a championship team,” Whitehead said. “I’m looking forward to coming up to the Soo, and and working hard with my teammates, on winning another championship.”

“Lucas is everything we’re looking for both as a person and a player,” added Soo Thunderbirds assistant coach and general manager Jamie Henderson. “His work ethic is off the charts and he is a really driven young man. He also comes from a great program in a great coach in Corey Beer and we can’t wait to see him in a Thunderbird sweater.”
