From the gateway city to the lock city.

The Soo Thunderbirds have announced on Monday that they have signed 2005-birth-year goaltender Kolton Bourret for the upcoming season.

Bourret, who turned 17-years-old back on May 8, spent last season with the Great North Under-18 Hockey League’s North Bay Trappers Under-18 club, where he had a 2.58 goals against average and 1 shutout through 15 regular season games.

He was also drafted 290th overall by the North Bay Battalion in the 2021 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection.

“We are excited to have Kolton join the Thunderbirds,” said Soo Thunderbirds assistant coach and general manager Jamie Henderson. “Kolton had a tremendous Under-18 season last year in North Bay, and he has worked tremendously hard and is really driven to continue his journey towards playing in the OHL one day.”

Bourret, who is from Thunder Bay, Ontario, stands 6’3 and weighs 179 pounds.

“I’m honoured to sign with such a high-end organization like the Thunderbirds,” Bourret said. “Coming into my first season of junior hockey, I want to build off the success this team had last season and do everything I can to keep it going. I can’t wait to get to the Soo and meet all my new teammates and coaches and play in front of a great fan-base.“
