A former Soo Thunderbird is now heading to university!

It was announced on Wednesday that former Soo Thunderbirds forward Camaryn Baber has committed to the University of New Brunswick Reds hockey team for the 2022-2023 season.

Baber, who just graduated from the Ontario Hockey League this past season, played in 181 career regular season games in the Ontario Hockey League, where he notched 35 goals, 89 points and 114 penalty minutes.

Baber, who began his Ontario Hockey League career with the Saginaw Spirit in the 2018-2019 season, scored 8 goals and 15 assists in 48 regular season games with them as a rookie, and helped them that year to a 45-win and 96-point season, which turned out to be their best season in franchise history.

In his second season with the Spirit in 2019-2020, the Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native then found the back of the net 9 times and set up 18 others in 59 regular season games, before the remainder of the season and the whole 2020-2021 season ended up getting cancelled due to COVID-19.

Then in his final season in the Ontario Hockey League in 2021-2022, Baber then served as captain of the Saginaw Spirit and notched 8 goals and 16 points in 27 games, before getting traded to the London Knights back on New Year’s Eve, where he then notched 9 goals and 11 assists in 36 regular season games as a member of the Knights.

Before starting his Ontario Hockey League career with the Saginaw Spirit in the 2018-2019 season, Baber played one full season with the Soo Thunderbirds back in 2017-2018, where he finished second in team scoring with 15 goals and 46 points in 46 regular season games.

Baber, who will now be a member of the University of New Brunswick Reds hockey team next season, will also be studying Business while attending that school.
