A defenceman from Thunder Bay is joining the Thunderbirds.

The Soo Thunderbirds have announced on Thursday, June 1 that they have signed defenceman and Thunder Bay, Ontario native Adam Kukko for the 2023-2024 season.

The signing of Kukko came shortly after the signing of defenceman Tyler Entwistle.

“Adam is a steady defenceman who can provide a physical element to his game,” said Soo Thunderbirds assistant coach and general manager Jamie Henderson. “We know how hard the guys from Thunder Bay play and practice so we are excited to add him to our program.”

Kukko, who is a 2005-birth-year defenceman, stands 5-foot-10 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds.

In 39 games played last season with his hometown Thunder Bay Kings U18 AAA team, Kukko had 1 goal and 3 assists.

“I am super excited to be joining an organization that has seen so much success,” Kukko said. “The Thunderbirds have an excellent reputation of developing players and getting them to the next level, so I’m excited to have the opportunity to play with them.”
